International Fee Paying Students

Melville Senior High School is very proud to have a long-standing association with international students. If you are looking for a school that is reputed to have a huge success with international students then you should look no further.

Melville Senior High School was established in 1960 and has a very proud reputation for providing relevant, marketable and top-quality education in our community. We strongly believe in providing a responsive learning environment for all students by enabling the academic, cultural and sporting development of the student within a safe and caring environment.

We are centrally located on public transport routes on a six hectare site in a quiet and established suburb with easy and convenient access to the city of Perth. We are close to bus and train routes.

Our international program began in 1998, and is very well established. Since then, we have had many students graduate through our school system to go on to do various degrees in their areas of interest. Our international students are given the opportunity to be able to gain educational qualifications recognised worldwide with a valuable cultural experience that is so important and necessary in this fast-paced and ever-changing global world.

A strong emphasis is placed on the pastoral care needs of our overseas students. We understand that homesickness and cultural change can be difficult for students to manage and it is for this reason that we have employed an International Student Coordinator.

Melville SHS hosts an Intensive English Centre, which has a diverse student population with young people from different countries, cultures and language backgrounds. Students who enrol at the IEC have either minimal or no exposure to English or possess beginning or intermediate English language skills. Newly arrived international students can apply to study English at the IEC prior to being integrated into mainstream classes.

Currently we have students from Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Korea, Switzerland, Iran, Maldives, Chile and Russia.

We also have a strong ESL support in the school for exiting IEC students. International students in mainstream schooling also receive further language and literacy development support through the English as a Second Language, ESL Program.

All international fee paying student enrolments are organised through Education Training International, ETI, the international arm of the Western Australian Government's Department of Education and Training. For more information please visit their website www.eti.wa.edu.au.

If parents arrive in Perth on an education visa to study or work at a TAFE College or a University then the families are allowed to approach the school directly. The dependant students are permitted to enrol at the local school as long as they pay a reduced international fee directly to the school.

If you need more information on Melville SHS's international program ring our International Student Coordinator on 6274 1300.
