At Melville Senior High School we have a strong link with many countries. There are opportunities to host students and be an exchange student in other countries. Our exchange links are with China and Italy.
No 7 High School
No. 7 High School is a Specialist Arts school and has a natural link with the high caliber arts programs at Melville SHS. The relationship includes teacher and student exchanges, the opportunity to communicate and share languages plus exhibit each other’s artwork. In 2015 ten students went to China to visit our new sister school No. 7 High School in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province and there was a reciprocal visit from their school later that year.

History of this relationship: In 2013 the Zhejiang province of China an English language competition (ELC) was run that involved a group of 300,000 participants. The competition topic was Western Australia. Each year, the top 25 students are awarded a trip to WA. The prize was a week’s stay in Perth. In 2013 Melville SHS families hosted the students for five days. The purpose of the ELC was to increase the profile of Western Australia amongst Zhejiang’s youth in addition to promoting Western Australia as a prospective study destination.

Two Italian exchange students are at Melville Senior High School each July and August. Thanks to our host students from Melville SHS, for providing them with a wonderful place to stay. Students can then have a similar experience in Italy over the Christmas holidays. Melville SHS Italian language students Chris Barker (Year 11) and Zoe Spanghero (Year 10) left for Italy in week 7 for a two month Italian exchange experience. They each hosted an Italian student earlier in the year.
A tour to Italy will hopefully be happening in the April school holidays in 2016.
