Melville Wins Meritorious Shield in A Grade Athletics

< Back to News

Melville Senior High School performed outstandingly at the A Division Interschool Athletics. They won the Meritorious Shield (for the top school when adjusted for student numbers) and they came second overall. The winner of the carnival on 1530 points was Churchlands, a school with nearly double the number of students. Melville received 1422 points and Rossmoyne came third with 1408 points.

The day was made more exciting when Melville, who were coming fourth before the relays, placed in the top four with nine of their relay teams, including first place for the Year 7 boys, Year 8 boys and Year 11/12 girls teams. The after-school baton change practice seemed to give the green and gold teams the edge. The students were extremely appreciative of teachers who made themselves available to run training sessions.

Melville SHS  beat Rossmoyne, Shenton College, Perth Modern, Churchlands, Duncraig SHS, Carine SHS and Kelmscott SHS

Individual Champions:
First Year 7: Athanase  Sibomana
Second Year 10: James Gallaugher
Third Year 10: Megan  Hooper
Second Year 11:  Abu Dulleh
Third Year 12: Smith Jessica
