On Friday, March 17, Melville SHS was a flurry of activity with the World’s Greatest Shave. The event was instigated and run by the Student Council at Melville SHS, and students and staff could choose to either colour their hair with non-permanent hairspray, cut and donate their hair, or go the whole way – and shave their heads!
Many students got involved with the hair colouring and by the end of lunch, the whole school was a mix of coloured hair. Four staff members, including the Head of the Student Council, Mrs Jo Daley shaved their heads for the cause, followed by a group of nine Year 12 boys, ‘Team Keem’ as well as other Student Council members. Overall the event raised $7,113.14 so far for the World’s Greatest Shave to beat blood cancer – this is double the goal the student council had originally set out to achieve. Harmony Day will be held at Melville SHS on Tuesday, March 21, and proceeds from this day will also go towards the Leukemia Foundation, meaning that the amazing total will only continue to rise. The school would also like to extend a thank you to Cody Phan and Seth Corby from Davilia Mens Hairstylists Booragoon who attended on the day and were in charge of everyone’s new hair-do’s!
Well done to the excellent courageous staff and students who participated in this fantastic cause. Below is a ‘before and after’ of Team Keem and the Melville SHS Shaved Staff.
