In Week 3, Melville Senior High School staff and students attended Government House with an invitation by the Governor to celebrate the success of the 2019 Governor’s STEM School of the Year Award. Melville SHS won the award for Leadership Excellence in 2019 however, celebrations had to be delayed due to COVID19 restrictions. The Governor personally welcomed select students from Years 7-12 for morning tea and a tour of Government House.
The award celebrates the integrated approach to STEM education displayed at Melville SHS, as well as the inclusion of STEM learning in non-typical STEM subjects across the school. As well as the tour of Government House, students were also invited to view some ’behind-the-scenes’ areas such as the Governor’s Office where they were learned about the rich history of Government House.
Although the celebration was delayed until 2021, students and staff say it was worth the wait and all agreed it was a fantastic opportunity.
