Our English program is designed to inspire a love for literature, enhance communication skills, and develop critical thinking.
From Year 7 to Year 12 students embark on a journey through diverse literary genres, comprehensive writing exercises, and engaging discussions that prepare them for academic and professional success

Our English program also includes English as ad additional dialect/language (EALD). English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) is a flexible program of instruction for language and literacy development, designed to assist students whose first language is not English achieve fluency and confidence in English.

Our comprehensive curriculum is designed to support students at all proficiency levels ensuring they succeed academically and socially. Our ESL program focuses on developing essential language skills to improve: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through immersive and interactive lessons, students gain a strong foundation in English while also developing intercultural understandings of the Australian society.

Why study

Our curriculum explores the power of language in classic and contemporary literature, creative writing, and advanced composition. Students will explore poetry, drama, novels, and non-fiction, honing their analytical and interpretive skills. Inspired by their study of a variety of text types and forms, students will also hone their creative writing skills to gain mastery of language for storytelling, reflection and persuasion. We also emphasize the importance of grammar, vocabulary, and effective communication which can provide a competitive advantage in education and work life.

Program

Programs focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating concepts, skills and learning processes.

  • Year 7-8: Introduction to various text types and basic writing skills.
  • Year 9-10: Intermediate courses focusing on literary analysis and advanced writing techniques.
  • Year 11-12: Specialised courses focusing on either Literature, English as an Additional Dialect or English. (ATAR or General English, English Literature or EALD)

Graduates of our English program will:

  • Develop strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Be well-prepared for higher education and various professional fields.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively and think critically.
