Science
Why study
Students regularly engage in hands-on experiments, enjoy incursions from leading scientists and excursions to universities and science facilities including Murdoch University, Curtin University, It Takes a Spark STEM, and participate in collaborative projects using leading-edge technology to explore scientific concepts and phenomena.
Specialised Facilities
7 contemporary science labs that are fully equipped to spark student interests and facilitate hands on science activities.
Flexible STEM space located in our Learning Resource Centre.
Program
Lower School Science (Years 7-10)
Our curriculum for Years 7 to 10 is closely aligned with the Department of Education’s Western Australian Curriculum, it includes foundational subjects in biology, chemistry, and physics. It encompasses three interrelated strands: Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour, and Science Inquiry Skills. These strands provide students with a comprehensive understanding of scientific concepts and processes, the development of scientific knowledge, and its applications in our daily lives.
Upper School Science (Years 11-12)
In Year 11, we offer Unit 1 and Unit 2 in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Human Biology. These courses lead to Units 3 and 4 and the WACE examinations in Year 12. Additionally, we offer General Science in Practice Units 1 and 2 in Year 11, followed by Units 3 and 4 in Year 12. All courses are designed to comply with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority guidelines on assessment and content.
Enrichment Activities
We provide a variety of enrichment activities to enhance the learning experience. Students participate in a range of incursions and excursion to explore and experience real world scenarios from leading scientists, physicists and astronomers. Our aim is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Science beyond the classroom.
- STEM Workshops: Interactive workshops that cover various STEM topics, providing hands-on learning experiences.
- Incursions: Bringing experts into the classroom to conduct dynamic science presentations and hands-on activities
- Excursions to Universities: Visits to local universities to explore advanced laboratories, attend lectures, and interact with researchers
- Competitions and Awards: Participation in science fairs, Olympiads, and other competitions to showcase student talent and earn recognition.
