In Term 1, Year 8 Gifted and Talented student Aliya Mohd Ibrahim, placed in the Top 10 for the Lower Secondary Division of the Storyathon Micro Story Competition. There were almost 20,000 entries and 70,000 student votes, which was phenomenal given the disruption that everyone has experienced during the start of 2020. Aliya was the only West Australian and one of only two Australians in the top 10.
The organiser Shane Hill said ‘It is nice to honour and enjoy the winning stories, however, it’s the overall participation and the fostering of a belief “everyone is an author” that we are most focused on. I encourage you to read these stories with your class’.
