The space is the physical and virtual catalyst for inquiry, imagination, discovery, creativity and innovation. It provides a hub for networking, information access, digital literacy instruction, learning and knowledge creation – a shared space for all students and the school community.

Our Learning Resource Centre caters for all students, providing areas for both quiet study and reading and also larger spaces for collaborative activities.  The area includes a lecture room, tuition/study skills centre, literacy and numeracy support centre, computer lab and other flexible and creative spaces for studying, thinking and doing, creating and learning.

At Melville we believe printed books still play a critical role in supporting learners. We promote a reading culture and provide opportunities for users to engage in literature enrichment activities. The Learning Resource Centre provides a wide range of relevant resources, services and technologies to satisfy the varied curriculum and recreational needs of its users.

The Learning Resource Centre prides itself in being a safe place for students to come at recess and lunchtime and before and after school. During this time, students can be seen engaging in group study, games, reading and daily puzzles and activities put on by the staff.

Study skills and academic support (literacy/numeracy) also take place in the Learning Resource Centre. Study skill workshops run on specific days before and after school and staff are often available for individual and small group study skills training during school hours. The Literacy and Numeracy support team is also located in the Learning Resource Centre. Individual and small group tuition is provided for students who are required to sit OLNA. In addition, selected students access small group tuition to bridge gaps in learning in Literacy and Numeracy in lower school.

The Learning Resource Centre is a welcoming, user-centred environment with a dynamic learning culture, staffed by skilled, committed and caring professionals.

The Learning Resource Centre is open from 8.15am-4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.15am-3.00pm Friday.
